pretty much a feed dump these days.

crawling outta beta
the website is making a comeback in the pie-chart of my time. it's still not ready for me to link to, but it is getting slicker everyday - two steps forward and one step back - at a time.
did you know that someone once got a $50 prize for writing the code i wrote from scratch, and it took me less time to do it than they. i'm such a nerd.
i slept 3.5 hours last night. tonight i'm going to bed early. today i mixed ed's album for 5 hours in the new, empty apartment. friday or saturday, vocals with davy.
amy's sleepy too. oh yeah.

moving out
the words written in puff paint on the heater's oil-resevior: "angel, alone, white wedding, bruce, pieces, kylie." it was the setlist for Alleycat's first show, the one in the basement that we specially spray painted our band name on the floor for. today i scraped those words off with a shard of pottery, like proto-lithic man.
we're cleaning the basement first, in preparation for departure. the landlord has asked us to move out, in so many words, with a plea for more money in the form of a pre-denied application's fee from me. so today i visited the prospective new place. a two-story wood-floored apartment of a duplex in a three story house. the rooms in the top floor have the kind of ceilings that are also walls, slanting nearly to the floor.
the new place is big, the landlord is cool, the wireless internet works fine. so if everything checks out, on monday we'll sign a lease and we'll have a long couple of weeks to transfer our everything.

small business owner
it's 'bout time i relayed my recent rash of good-fortune. among other things - letsee... starting work at the restaurant, getting into the mixing phase of ed's album, being hired with the Animal Kingdom to do some location recording for March Forth, a local hippy marching band and carnival, I am also a Small Business Owner.
MusicForDozens.com is the company, one which Greg has run for a few years with his cousin Jem, which has just about reached the upper bounds of it's current business model's tachometer. reved up and ready to shift into high-gear. after reading Chris Anderson's (not me silly) article
The Long Tail, I got a rush of enthusiasm for figuring out how best to increase the Music For Dozens catalog by orders of magnitude. the solution: automation.
so that is what i've spent the last few weeks doing. everything from the server itself to the database it runs on has to be re-configured, with the goal to get as many artists as possible signing up, and uploading songs as fast as possible. the nature of the business is that we expect to have few artists who sell a lot (anyone who sells much music could move to something higher-profile), but we hope to have lots of artists who sell just a few copies. so by the end of December, expect to see some changes at MusicForDozens.com, and maybe even watch these pages if you want early beta access. be the first on your block!

pastiche, night 1
i showed up at the bar at 4pm today, in my winter hat, carrying my folded black apron, and ready to work. Sarah had picked me up on 34th, driving her mini, and deposited me on Hawthorne, shortening my 25min walk to a 5 minute drive. cheers, Sarah!
the floor was covered in sawdust and paper, while the 15 or so of us installed the gas tap and the display case, the stereo - by running 150ft of cable, climbing the walls, and lurking in cubbies above the door. Jon and Cheryl brought in the shelves and racks, and eventually, the food. by six we were putting together tomatoes and peppers and sausage and sweet bacon and dates. and loading the sushi-bar with Pix new desserts.
at the end of the night, I didn't get a chance to congatulate Jon but when I told Cheryl, she seemed tired, but happy. i think we're all relieved to have got the thing started.

bar pastiche
it's been a while since i've graced these hallowed pages, since i've trampled this tricky turf, since i've... fuggitaboutit! so... i'm reentering the workforce, bit by bit. still pushing to get my Matilda paycheck, but the work itself is about to pay off. and today i walked down to the restaurant to help John and Co. put together the final touches. i sanded, painted, sanded and painted for about 2.5 hours.
when i left it was because i felt like my incoherence was making my a liability to myself and others, for any work more dangerous than sanding and painting. you see, i woke up quite early this morning to see Jem's PAMLA talk, about P.K.D. and the O.C.
there's so much to say about Philip K Dick's work, that an entire conference could be devoted to it, as it was, I heard a broad smattering of everything from feminist readings of androids as oedipal constructions, to the incredibility of the sci-fi story itself as a model for the experience of any fiction writer. and then we ate crepes!

fugu is the best mac osX application i've ever seen. 800k, allows ssh tunneling between machines, full file system. put that on a peer-discovery model and clone it.
gnuts, they could call it. fuck that election ya'll. i'm feeling a little anti-christian right now. nevermind that i'm listening to björk and hanging with athena. what's up, girl? she's always on her guard, outside, but when she come home she just wants to cuddle.
why do i always want to give wants an apostrophe?

solace
i'm having a hell-of-a-time making this webpage using automatically generated content. sorry folks, i won't be linking to it for a couple days at least. but you know it's gonna be da bomb!
no photos tonight
coalition building. kerry's message to the nation, could easily be the right message for the democratic party to follow right now. no base in the middle - a regional party? regional appeal.
tom brokaw looks unhappy. i've felt a push for kerry from the media at the end there.
katfight in the back-yard tonight. i had to break it up, Athena and Olvier. ran into Scott out there, he'd been watching a movie to stay away from it. I told him the election results were 'horrible' and wished him a good night.
it's still sinking in, but these ads were prepared. did companies file conditional ads on results? "financial suicide" "co-president" etc. WTF?
brokaw's calling it for kerry, under his breath.
hawii rhyme?
brokaw really seems to be in his element. interesting how my - use ...
draw the map and then pick the issues. 25% of Ohio voters were Born-Agains, not taken "seriously" by the left (according to George)
Tom is gonna count Ohio.
