the lever effect

Paul Graham says technology enables programmers to have a wide spread of productivity, within the profession.

technology has been doing that for a long time. think of Quincy Jones in the 70's, much more productive than the average producer.

basics

tonight, instead of packing for Mexico, I recorded At Dusk's newest tracks for the upcoming album. we'd tried to do this once last week, but computer problems put us out.

but tonight everything went as smoothly as we could have hoped. the computer only tried to give up once, and I conquered it. we recorded rough versions of 4 songs, bringing the total (including last week's) to 6.

I told Amy I'd be done by one, and it looks like I was right, for once. we leave for the airport in 3 hours - I hope I find my passport.

going to mexico

tomorrow Amy and I leave for a wedding party in Mexico, the second wedding we'll see in as many weeks. I won't be taking my laptop, so I might be out of email contact. that should be nice.

more vacay

Its been nice to spend time with Amy and my family and be away from the stress of working and work and recording and stuff. Today I've been in hibernation, despite meeting a bunch of new people at my brother's house. which is very nice, btw.

the process of object orienting Music for Dozens has been reaping rewards lately. I added this list in about 5 minutes.

this is vacay + speculative history

dogg, I am in Nashville, at a coffeeshop calling itself Portland Brew, which Amy and I came to so that we could thow down, should the need arise. Now we are drinking lattes, which are on the big side, but darnit if they wouldn't go unnoticed coming out of the station at Tiny's. or is it would go unnoticed? well, the point is that you can get a latte in Nashville that is completely drinkable, if not then some, which is more than can be said for the City of San Francisco, for instance.

I wonder if future historians will chart the spread of civilization by the remnents of La Marzocco espresso machines distributed across the continent.
